How do I install Dri-Dek?
Installation is tool-free. Lay the tiles out in your desired pattern and snap them together using the interlocking pin-and-tab system on all four sides. No adhesive is required for most installations — the tiles snap together firmly and stay put under their own weight (nearly 1 pound per tile). Trim edges with a utility knife to fit walls, posts, or equipment. Add 2"x12" Beveled Edges along the perimeter for a finished look and a smooth ramp surface.
What's the best tool for cutting Dri-Dek?
A utility knife, box cutter, or heavy-duty shears (scissors) all cut Dri-Dek cleanly. The vinyl trims easily with any sharp blade.
Will Dri-Dek build custom-sized mats for me?
No, we don't manufacture custom-sized mats. Instead, Dri-Dek's modular system lets you build any size or shape you need. The interlocking tiles assemble into any configuration, and a utility knife trims them to fit walls, posts, drains, or equipment. Most installations don't require any tools at all beyond a sharp blade for trimming.
How do I attach an Edge piece if it won't line up with a Tile?
Each Dri-Dek Tile has pins along two sides and tabs along the other two sides. The 2"x12" Edge has pins on its underside designed to interlock with a Tile's tabs. If you're trying to attach an Edge to the tab-side of a Tile and it won't fit cleanly, trim or cut off the small tabs on top of the Edge with a utility knife or scissors. Once trimmed, the Edge's underside pins interlock directly with the Tile's tabs. This is a normal, expected installation technique — no adhesive needed.
Do I need adhesive to install Dri-Dek?
Adhesive is generally NOT needed. The pin-and-tab interlocking system snaps tiles together firmly, and the weight of the tiles holds the assembled surface in place. It takes both hands and significant effort to pry connected tiles apart. Adhesive is available as an optional product for high-traffic areas or installations where permanent bonding is preferred, but most customers never need it.
How do I anchor Dri-Dek to keep it from moving?
In typical installations, the weight of Dri-Dek — nearly 1 pound per tile — is enough to keep it in place. Snap multiple tiles together and the assembled mass stays put under foot traffic, carts, or equipment. For unusual installations (very smooth surfaces, exposed to wind, etc.) contact us and we'll advise on options.
Can I install Dri-Dek over carpet?
Yes. The interlocking system holds the tiles together and the carpet provides extra cushion underfoot. No adhesive needed.
Can I install Dri-Dek over a heated or radiant floor?
Yes, Dri-Dek is fine over heated or radiant floors at normal residential temperatures. Dri-Dek's continuous-use temperature limit is 167°F, well above typical radiant-heat surface temperatures of 85-100°F.
